Onedio

Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Onedio is a Turkish platform for entertainment and news content: news, listicles, quizzes, horoscopes, recipes, reviews. Formally it is neither a social network nor a blogging platform but an editorial publication with a user-facing part attached to it: a registered person can add their own material on an equal footing with the editorial team.

The operator describes itself as follows: «Onedio started publishing on 1 August 2012 as Turkey's first content-based social network», and in the same place it promises that a reader can «create a profile, add content they like to Onedio, comment, follow other users». The user agreement is even more specific: the service is called «a social network giving members an environment for keeping a diary (a blog), news, video and editing content, as well as for sharing it, commenting on it and discussing it».

The platform's key feature has to be known before your first post: under its agreement the rights to an uploaded video pass to the platform. The detail is in the "What you can publish" section.

Who's here

Onedio gives no public audience figures — visitors, registered members, views — on any publicly accessible page. Claims about its size do exist, but without measurements: the platform calls itself «Turkey's first and largest social media platform» and «the first and only social content platform in Turkey». These are claims about itself, not the result of an independent measurement, and they should not be relied on for planning.

The language is Turkish, and this is enshrined as a rule: «comments on the site must be in Turkish». The machine-readable description of the site is likewise entirely Turkish and lists the sections: current affairs, sport, recipes, lifestyle and relationships, health, finance and the economy, technology and science, TV series and film, celebrity news, games.

The operator is stated openly: ONEDİO BİLİŞİM YAZILIM MEDYA TEKN. SAN. TİC. A.Ş., with an address in Ankara (Çankaya, Next Level Ofis), commercial register No. 361 347, the representative Kadir Kaan Kayabalı, the head of content Levent Yaşar. The same place lists the editorial team — sixteen editors by subject area on the date of the check — and states its membership of an advertising network: «Ait Olduğu Network: Mediazone».

Getting started

Registration is described step by step in the agreement: to add material, comment, follow other members, add to favourites and exchange messages, you have to click «Giriş Yap» on the home page, then "click to become an Onedio member", and enter an e-mail address, a username, a first name, a last name and a password — or sign in via Facebook. Reading, sharing, leaving emoji reactions and commenting via Facebook are possible without registration too.

There is no separate business account, and commercial initiative is explicitly forbidden: a member may not create advertising on onedio.com, place hidden advertising and spam without the platform's request, without its written consent or without a separate contract; for commercial use you are invited to contact the platform.

There is also a technical detail worth remembering: on visiting the home page the platform sometimes shows a check — «click the button to confirm that you are not a robot». The corporate sections read directly all the same.

What you can publish

The agreement lists the formats as follows: information, data, texts, photographs, video, sound clips, comments, articles, programs, code, graphics — all of this is called "content" and may be added both by members and by editors.

Rights to what you upload — read this before publishing

This is the most important point in the whole article. The user agreement provides not for a licence but for a transfer of rights. Verbatim: the member «unconditionally, perpetually, without restriction and free of charge transfers to Onedio the use of all economic and moral rights under the Turkish intellectual property law (FSEK) in respect of videos he or she has prepared only about himself or herself and uploaded». Specific articles of the law are listed — the right of adaptation (art. 21), reproduction (art. 22), distribution (art. 23), performance (art. 24), and communication to the public by means of transmitting signs, sound and images (art. 25), as well as the rights from articles 14–17 on publication, attribution of the name and the prohibition of alterations.

The consequence is stated there in plain words: «the holder of all economic rights to these videos will be Onedio», and the member «acknowledges in advance that he or she claims no rights under any revenue models — from views, clicks, distribution by third parties and on other platforms». The decision to publish a video, take it down or hand it to outside platforms is taken by the platform alone, without the author's separate consent.

What is prohibited

The agreement prohibits material damaging the personal rights of third parties, defamatory and misleading material, pornographic images and images contrary to morality, insults, violence, racism, discrimination and anything unlawful. The community rules add requirements about tone: racist, sexist, homophobic and abusive comments are not allowed; you may not write in capital letters; you may not choose a provocative username; spam is forbidden, and repeatedly sending identical messages is stopped.

Moderation is one-sided: the platform reserves the right to delete, edit, alter or block any content at any time, without notifying the author and without stating a reason, and also to reject, delay or not publish any submitted content.

How to grow

The platform has no description of a feed algorithm. Open mechanisms are visible on the site itself: the blocks «Güncel Konular» (current topics), «Günün Popüler Başlıkları» (the day's popular headlines), «Son Eklenenler» (recently added) and «Trendler», as well as interactive formats — polls and quizzes, where readers add their own options.

The editorial requirements for content are set out in the "Publishing principles" and are useful as a guide to what counts as quality here: news and material are not published without checking and being confident of their accuracy; the priority is not to mislead people, to be realistic and impartial; mistakes are corrected as quickly as possible; the right of reply and correction is respected. The same place has the editorial taboos: do not demean people on grounds of race, gender, age, health, political views, social standing, sexual orientation or religion; do not publish material encouraging violence; do not declare a person guilty before a court decision.

The machine-readable index of the site shows which subjects the platform considers its pillars — right down to individual "evergreen" pages such as the meanings of emoji and interpretations of dreams, listed in llms.txt. For those who follow the platform programmatically there is an open feed: onedio.com/Publisher/publisher-daily.rss serves headlines, links and dates.

No advertising dashboard for outside advertisers is described on any publicly accessible page: there is a "Reklam" section in the footer, but at the address we checked, kurumsal/reklam, the page did not open.

Path to monetization

Onedio does not pay creators — at least, not a single payout scheme is described on any publicly accessible page, and the agreement explicitly removes any claims to income: the member agrees in advance that he or she makes no claim to payments under revenue models from uploaded videos.

Money moving in the opposite direction is provided for: the platform reserves the right to make individual sections, categories or services paid and to determine the amount of the fee unilaterally. On the date of the check the site header carried an «Abonelik» (subscription) item, but its terms and prices are not named on the open pages.

The conclusion is simple: Onedio is a platform for reach and recognition, not for earning. If your goal is income from content, you will have to earn it outside the platform, and you must do so with the ban on hidden advertising in mind.

Tools and automation

The platform offers no public API. Two resources are served in machine-readable form: an RSS feed of daily posts and an llms.txt index describing the sections, the corporate pages and a list of material in Markdown format. The second is interesting because every entry has a version at an address of the form /md/<address>.md — that is, the site is prepared for reading by programs.

The platform lists its mobile apps itself: the App Store, Google Play and the Huawei AppGallery.

Limits and rules

Who it's for

It suits you if you need reach in Turkey for texts, listicles and quizzes in Turkish and the question of rights to the material is not a matter of principle for you. The platform is editorial, with described principles of fact-checking, and its material is well indexed: a significant share of the site index consists of "evergreen" reference pages.

It suits you as a way of getting acquainted with the Turkish agenda: the RSS feed and the machine-readable index let you follow the subjects programmatically.

It does not suit video you want to use anywhere else: under the agreement the economic rights to an uploaded video pass to the platform irrevocably and without payment. It does not suit you if you are counting on earning on the platform — it offers no payout schemes for creators. And it does not suit direct promotion of goods and services: hidden advertising and self-placed advertising material are prohibited.
