Gyakori kérdések

Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Gyakori kérdések ("dyakori kerdeshek", "frequently asked questions") is a Hungarian question-and-answer service. The mechanics are simple: a registered user posts a question in one of the categories, others answer, and the community rates the answers by how helpful they are. The user guide dates the launch: «A gyakorikerdesek.hu 2006. októberében indult» — the site went live in October 2006.

The operator is WebMinute Kft. (2100 Gödöllő, Alma u. 16., registration number 13-09-122408). The company describes itself as the operator of more than 16 sites, among which Gyakorikérdések.hu is named one of the most visited.

For a communications specialist there is one fact that matters here, and it determines everything else: any commercial activity on the platform is prohibited by the terms. Below we go through the wording word for word.

Who's here

The language is Hungarian; the interface has no other-language versions. The audience is accordingly Hungarian-speaking.

The platform publishes no traffic figures: they appear neither on the home page, nor in the guide, nor in the legal documents. The operator's media kit also does without statistics — the webminute.hu/mediaajanlat page lists the formats and the price, but gives neither an impression count nor a visitor count. This is a notable gap: if you need a reach estimate, there is no official source for one.

What is known for certain is the structure. The material is sorted into categories, among them animals, family relationships, health, electronics, food and drink, esoterics, diets, raising children, dating, transport, education, home, politics, sport, computing, beauty and fashion, sexuality, entertainment, teenage relationships, sciences, travel, holidays, business and finance, other questions.

The age threshold is stated directly: «Weboldalunkra 16. életévét be nem töltött személy nem regisztrálhat» — anyone who has not turned 16 cannot register, and on registration the user declares and warrants that they have reached that age.

Getting started

Without registration you can only read: «Regisztráció nélkül csak mások kérdéseit és válaszait böngészheted». To ask questions, answer and rate other people's answers, you need an account.

Registration requires a chosen made-up name, a password and an email address; an email with an activation link arrives, and only after you follow it do all the site's features open up. If the email does not arrive, you can send a repeat request after an hour.

A key feature of the platform is that a public name is optional. The user decides for themselves whether to show the chosen name or to publish content anonymously. There are two exceptions: the name is revealed in the top list and when sending a private message. For a brand this means that building recognition here through authorship is difficult by the very design of the service.

There is a requirement for the account name that bears directly on marketing: «A választott nicknév nem lehet másokra nézve sértő, jogsértő, reklámtartalmú vagy trágár» — a nickname may not be offensive, unlawful, advertising in content or obscene; in such cases the account may be deleted without warning.

The documents provide for no separate business account or verified company page. Moreover, registering under the name of public figures or legal entities is prohibited, as is running several accounts at once.

What you can publish

A question is created step by step: you choose a category and subcategory, word the question with an optional note, an automatic duplicate check runs, then come keywords and a preview. You can specify six keywords; the site reserves the right to edit, remove and supplement them, and if you systematically supply inappropriate words, moderators can take away your right to assign them.

You can attach a poll with answer options to a question, but this option only becomes available above a certain user level.

The prohibitions are listed in the terms in detail. You may not: publish personal data — a phone number, an email address, quotes from private correspondence, even with the person's consent; post pornography or offer sexual services; offer goods whose circulation is prohibited or requires a permit; pass yourself off as another user or an employee of the operator; deliberately interfere with the site's operation — through flooding, spam, off-topic posting, provocation, scripted messages.

The clause on rights to uploaded material stands apart. By publishing a post, the user grants the operator a «korlátlan, de nem kizárólagos felhasználási jogot», which the operator is entitled to transfer to a third party, and the consideration in return is named as the very ability to use the site free of charge. At the same time the operator does not take on the archiving of user material and advises you to save what you need yourself.

How to grow

Visibility mechanics

There is no algorithmic feed here — there are category listings and search. Search works with caveats: it looks primarily at words of four letters or more, for shorter ones only a match with a keyword is checked, and if you enter more than three words, the search is run on the first three only.

If there are no answers, a question can be bumped with the highlight function. The conditions are strict: you can highlight when 36 hours have passed since publication and at least 24 hours since the last answer; on top of that you must not have three highlighted questions and must not have any highlighted question in the same category; the same question can be highlighted again after a week.

Levels and the top list

Every user has a level from one to five: a newly registered user gets the first one, activity raises the level and expands rights — among other things, how often you can ask questions changes. The right to report a post also only opens up once you reach a certain level.

The top list is calculated by a transparent formula: a question is worth 3 points, a question deleted by a moderator minus 3; an answer is worth from minus 5 to plus 5 in proportion to how useful others found it, a deleted answer minus 5; rating someone else's answer is worth plus or minus 1 depending on whether it matched the majority view; a poll vote is worth 1 point. Users with a negative total are not shown in the top list.

The usefulness of an answer is calculated with weights: the higher a user's own rating percentage, the more weight their rating carries, and the percentages are recalculated every night.

Advertising

You can buy placement, but not through an ads manager — you go through the operator by email. The media kit names the formats: 728 × 200 or 728 × 90 pixels for the desktop version, 300 × 250 for mobile; only a static or animated image is allowed, text and script ads are not permitted. One price is given: 300 forints + VAT per 1000 CPM, and only impressions that were actually visible are counted. There are no dates for this offer on the page.

What you must not do

Here the platform is extremely specific. The terms prohibit: «Tilos reklámot közzétenni, üzletszerű kereskedelmi tevékenységet folytatni, más weboldalt népszerűsíteni, linkkampányt, multi level vagy affiliate marketinget folytatni, a többi Felhasználót burkolt marketingtevékenységgel megtéveszteni» — it is prohibited to publish advertising, carry on commercial activity, promote another site, run link campaigns, engage in multi-level or affiliate marketing, or mislead other users with covert marketing activity.

The guide repeats the same in practical language: an account can be restricted for inciting hatred, insults, provocation, promoting a business, a product or a site, advertising, foul language, racist texts and sending identical answers across many questions.

Sanctions are applied without warning: «A moderátorok nem kötelesek a törlés előtt figyelmeztetést küldeni» — moderators are not obliged to send a warning before deletion. The legal notice adds that the operator is entitled to suspend or terminate access and delete a user's material without prior notification.

Path to monetization

The platform does not pay authors. The documents provide for no reward programmes, ad revenue share or paid subscriptions; the top list and the levels are reputational, not monetary.

Moreover, commercial use of the site's material is prohibited: the rights to the database and the service belong to the operator, and beyond reading, displaying on screen and saving for personal, non-commercial purposes the material may not be used without prior written permission.

The only lawful monetary contact with the platform is buying advertising from the operator at the rate card given above.

Tools and automation

The platform announces no official programming interface: there is neither API documentation nor any mention of webhooks or exports. Nor does the platform appear in schedulers' catalogues of supported platforms — which is logical, since mass identical posts are explicitly named a violation.

The built-in user tools are email notifications and watchers: you can mark a question as watched and receive an email about new answers (the digest goes out every morning as a single email covering all questions), and you can also subscribe to keywords and follow new questions on a topic. There is a weekly newsletter with a selection of new questions.

For complaints there is a "report to a moderator" icon next to a question and an answer, with a mandatory reason; the feature, as noted, is visible only from a certain level upwards.

Limits and rules

Who it's for

It works as a source of research material: thousands of real questions from a Hungarian-speaking audience, worded by the people themselves and sorted by category, from health to finance — a ready-made map of what people actually ask.

It works as an advertising platform if you are prepared to deal with the operator directly: the formats and the price are published, and you pay for visible impressions.

It does not work for an organic brand presence. Promoting a site, affiliate links and covert marketing are prohibited in so many words, registration under the name of a legal entity is prohibited, and the default anonymity of authors makes working on recognition pointless. It does not work for automation either: there is no API, and mass identical answers lead to restriction of the account.
