ایتا (Eitaa)

Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

ایتا (Eitaa) is an Iranian messenger with channels, supergroups, bots and mini apps. Structurally it is closest to Telegram: public channels with identifiers of the form eitaa.com/username, supergroups, pinned messages, stickers.

Three things matter here for SMM. Eitaa has an official channel management service, Eitaayar (ایتایار, eitaayar.ir), with a publication scheduler and an open API — meaning scheduling is a standard feature, not a homemade one. The content of public channels is accessible from an ordinary browser on the eitaa.com domain. And the platform's rules are described in unusual detail — down to how many months of inactivity cost a channel its public identifier.

The platform describes itself as a messenger built to cover all the needs of Iranian users in a single app.

Who's here

The messenger started work in the year 1396 of the Iranian calendar (2017–2018 in the Gregorian one), first on Android and on the web. The developer is the company Andisheh Yavaran Tamaddon-e Emrooz, which the FAQ section calls entirely private, operating with the support of the Tooba company and the Hatef cultural association; the same section calls Tooba one of Iran's first providers of bulk SMS systems.

The audience is Iran. A detail that matters for the market: the platform has reserved the identifiers of every Telegram channel registered in SHAMAD, the state system of digital content identifiers, and hands them over to their owners, while the owner of a Telegram channel with at least 5000 followers can request their identifier through support — the procedure is described in the FAQ section. That says outright who the platform was built for: for migrating a Telegram audience.

Supported platforms: Android from version 4.1, iOS, the web and desktop versions for Windows and 64-bit macOS and Linux — the list is in the same place.

Getting started

Registration is by phone number. A username is optional, but without one you will not be found in search: Latin letters, digits and the underscore are allowed, the minimum length is six characters, and case does not matter. A channel is created in the app, but no more than five public ones can be created from a single account.

Groups are arranged differently from Telegram: an ordinary group holds up to 500 members, and on reaching 14 members it is automatically upgraded to a supergroup with a change of link. Supergroups and channels have no limit on the number of members.

For a business there is one more step — identity verification. The rules explicitly advise against making deals in commercial channels whose creator has not been verified, and state that a channel creator's verification status can be checked. Verification is also mandatory for mini app developers.

What you can publish

The formats: text, photos, video, GIFs, stickers and any files, plus pinning messages, editing and deleting after publication, hashtags and replies — that is how the FAQ section describes it.

The publishing rules are detailed and strict. A public channel is equated with a mass medium: only what is acceptable in ordinary media is acceptable in it, and advertising posts are subject to the same requirements as ordinary ones — this is stated outright. Prohibited are indecent content, calls to violence and self-harm, insults to religious sanctities, lies and rumours, malware, infringement of intellectual property rights, phishing, advertising of gambling, and the publication of secret documents. Commercial channels have separate clauses: you may not sell what is prohibited offline, including tools for circumventing blocks; you may not show underwear on a live model, and in photographs with models for other goods the face must be cropped out or blurred.

There is a separate provision: a private channel or group whose link has been posted somewhere ceases to count as a private space and falls under all the rules for public channels.

How to grow

Direct additions are limited: the creator and each administrator with the right to add members can use it no more than 200 times, and the rules require the consent of those being added, while declaring the trade in followers a violation for the seller and the buyer alike.

The main way to grow is mutual post exchanges and buying placements from other channels. Everyone who orders, produces or publishes advertising must follow the regulation on supervision of advertising content, which the platform publishes in a separate official channel — a requirement of clauses 4.5.2 and 4.5.3. The same document prohibits promoting services that are blocked in Iran.

The platform has advertising of its own: the rules state that some of Eitaa's services are funded by advertising revenue and that the reach, the placements and the types of such advertising are determined by Eitaa itself. There is an advertisers' dashboard at ads.eitaa.com, but it requires signing in with a phone number.

An important rule about activity: if a public channel has had no new entries for more than three months, the platform may take away its public identifier and make the channel private — the content and the followers are preserved. Empty channels created to reserve an identifier fall under the same rule — the provision is in the rules.

Path to monetization

The platform describes no programme of payouts to authors for views: no such programme appears on the home page, in the FAQ section or in the rules.

Earning is assumed to work in two ways. The first is selling advertising in your own channel: the rules mention the "advertising administrator" role and remind you that responsibility for advertising posts rests with the channel creator on a par with the administrator. The second is your own sales through a commercial channel or a mini app; the activity of commercial channels is subject to Iran's e-commerce law.

The platform distinguishes "barnameh" (برنامه, an app) from "barnamak" (برنامک, a mini app): the first is a page inside Eitaa that can send messages to the users who launched it and open the second; the second is a web application in HTML, CSS and JavaScript that runs inside a WebView with no separate installation or registration, with single sign-on through an Eitaa account. They are used for purchases, polls, games and reference services — all of this is described in the documentation, which stresses that a mini app is available immediately after approval, without going through app stores.

Tools and automation

The main tool is Eitaayar. The FAQ section on the platform's site calls it a system for uploading material with scheduling, and the service itself confirms that it was created by Eitaa's programmers and operates with its support.

What it can do, according to the description on its site: scheduled publishing; deletion on a schedule and on reaching a set number of views; viewing what has been sent, the queue, drafts and deleted items; a permanent signature under entries; subordinate users with permissions; anonymous feedback collection; an API; management of apps and mini apps.

Eitaayar's API is described in a public guide: requests go to an address of the form https://eitaayar.ir/api/TOKEN/METHOD_NAME, the response is JSON with an ok field, and there are three methods — getMe, sendMessage and sendFile. sendMessage has the parameters chat_id, text, title, disable_notification, reply_to_message_id, date for scheduled sending in Unix time format, pin for automatic pinning, and viewCountForDeleteall of it in the guide.

Apps have a separate API. Two restrictions there are stated outright: you may write only to someone who granted access themselves by pressing the launch button or opening the app by direct link; and every app has a daily message limit that is allocated according to user engagement and decreases with each send.

Apps are registered in the Eitaayar panel after identity verification in the "My Eitaa" system. One app can contain up to five mini apps, and publication in the general catalogue requires an application and approval. The SDK gives a mini app the signed-in user's data, sending a message to a chat, requesting a phone number with the user's consent, a shortcut on the home screen, vibration, a QR scanner and the device's sensors — the list is published.

Limits and rules

The platform gives its numeric limits in the rules: a group — up to 500 members; a supergroup and a channel — no limit; the upgrade to a supergroup at 14 members; 200 direct additions per administrator; five public channels from one account; three months of inactivity as grounds for taking away a public identifier.

File storage is not guaranteed: the rules warn that the company does not undertake to store uploaded files indefinitely, and stipulate that no compensation is paid if data is lost.

The legal framework is Iranian. The FAQ section claims that nobody can compel Eitaa to delete users' data, and at the same time that the company is subject to the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran and to the decisions of judicial authorities and deletes bots and channels with violent, terrorist or indecent content; the same section states that not a single byte of data has been handed over to third parties, including states. That is the platform's own statement.

Responsibility for content rests with whoever publishes it, and for a channel or group with its creator, who is obliged to monitor the content and delete violations immediately. Enforcement is graduated: a warning, deletion of the content, then restrictions — up to a ban on syncing contacts, on writing to non-contacts and on creating new channels and groups.

Mini app developers get separate rules: account verification, responsibility for support and for answering complaints, an obligation to notify the catalogue in advance of material changes to an app, and the platform's right to block an app without warning — all of it in the developer rules.

Who it's for

Eitaa suits you if your audience is in Iran and you work with it in the channel format: a channel comes with a standard publication scheduler with an open API, and public content is accessible from a browser. It also suits those who ran an Iranian audience on Telegram — a mechanism for transferring a channel identifier is officially provided — and developers of services: mini apps give you forms, payment and reference scenarios without publishing in app stores.

It does not suit you if you plan aggressive audience-building methods: trading in followers is explicitly prohibited for the seller and the buyer alike, and direct additions are tightly limited. Nor does it suit those who are not ready to work with Iranian publishing rules: the requirements for advertising, for images in commercial channels and for channel subject matter are noticeably stricter than usual, and a public channel is equated with a mass medium.

Getting started

for an activity that requires a licence in real life, a licence is required on the platform too: «هر فعالیتی که در فضای حقیقی نیازمند اخذ مجوز از مراجع قانونی و احراز صلاحیت متقاضی ‌باشد، در صورت تصریح قانون، برای فعالیت در ایتا نیز نیازمند اخذ مجوز از مراجع مربوطه است» (our translation: any activity which in the real world requires a permit from the competent authorities and confirmation of the applicant's eligibility requires, where the law expressly so provides, the same permit for activity in Eitaa)

the platform's rules, clause 1.8. Separately, clause 4.1.4.2 forbids creating a channel in the name of state bodies without permission. This is a barrier to entry made of permits rather than money, and it is set by Iranian law rather than by the platform itself

Account and access

the creator of a trading channel may pass identity verification, and the platform warns about deals in an unverified channel: «پیگیری تخلفات احتمالی کانالی که سازنده آن در ایتا احراز هویت نشده است، دشوار بوده فلذا معامله در چنین کانالی به هیچ وجه توصیه نمی‌شود» (our translation: investigating possible violations by a channel whose creator has not passed identity verification in Eitaa is difficult, and therefore deals in such a channel are by no means recommended)

the platform's rules, clause 4.3.5. Identity verification is described as an option, not a duty: the document does not declare it compulsory for creating a channel

How the money works here

an occupied or reserved public identifier is granted only on application to @support and only to the owner of a Telegram channel with at least five thousand subscribers: «اگر کانال تلگرامی با حداقل پنج هزار عضو دارید که شناسه آن در ایتا در دسترس نیست، کافی است درخواست خود را در ایتا به @support ارسال کنید. بعد از تایید درخواست…» (our translation: if you have a Telegram channel with at least five thousand members whose identifier is unavailable in Eitaa, it is enough to send your request in Eitaa to @support. After the request is approved…)

question 27 in the platform's help centre. The 5000-subscriber threshold concerns obtaining someone else's channel name, not monetisation: a channel with any number of subscribers can be created under a free identifier without an application. The same place (question 26) says that the identifiers of Telegram channels registered in the SHAMAD state system of the Ministry of Culture are reserved for their creators

Pricing

the platform calls itself free: «این برنامه بسیار سریع، ساده و رایگان است» (our translation from Persian: this application is very fast, simple and free); the same place promises that services beyond Telegram's «به تدریج و بصورت رایگان به کاربران عرضه خواهد شد» (our translation: will gradually and free of charge be made available to users)

the platform's frequently asked questions, section «A — general questions», read in full (40,586 characters). This is the answer to the question about a fee for entry: the platform asks no money for installing the app or for running a channel. There is no separate line in the rules about a fee for publishing as such — «free» is said about the application as a whole
