Synthesia
Tool · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.
Overview
Synthesia describes itself like this: "Create AI generated videos from text with the most advanced AI avatars and voiceovers in 160+ languages. Try our free AI video generator now!" (home page). That is a self-description: the "most advanced", and the figure "160+", and the word "free" belong to the tool, not to a check. The number of languages of the voiceover the tool itself names differently in different places: on its page about languages there stand side by side "160+ languages and accents" and "140+ languages" — two figures in one document. The pricing and the free plan are set out below.
By type of work the tool stands apart from the schedulers: it does not put out posts and does not count reach, but makes video out of text — with synthesised presenters and voiceover. For social networks it is a supplier of material, not an instrument for running feeds.
The interface language of the home page is en. The hreflang markup declares the versions: de, en, es, fr, it, ja, nl, pt-br, sv and "xx". The last is written down as it is: xx is not a designation of a language but a service placeholder.
Which platforms it works with
The integrations page of the documentation lists about sixty connections, but there are only a handful of publishing platforms among them: YouTube, Vimeo, Medium, Kickstarter. The rest are systems for training, for managing a site, for working with customers and with personnel. The address www.synthesia.io/integrations redirects to the same place.
For YouTube and Vimeo there are direct wordings on the page: "Distribute Synthesia videos on YouTube", "Host Synthesia videos on Vimeo". Medium and Kickstarter are named in the same row without descriptions of their own.
Social networks in the customary sense — Instagram, TikTok, Facebook — are not in the list of integrations at all. A finished video will have to be posted to them by other means.
Pricing
The prices are from the pricing page, the currency is US dollars.
Starter — "$29/mo" with monthly payment and "$18/mo" with annual; its volume is announced as an annual one: "14,500 credits/y".
Creator — "$89/mo" monthly and "$64/mo" with annual payment, "44,000 credits/y".
Enterprise — "Custom pricing" with the note "Unlimited video minutes".
The minimum paid price is 29 dollars a month with monthly payment; with annual payment the same Starter comes out at 18 dollars a month.
Both values on the paid plans are written on the page with "/mo" — the monthly one and the annual one alike. That is, 18 dollars on Starter and 64 on Creator mean not a single payment but a month when paying a year ahead.
What to look at when counting: the credits of the paid plans are issued as an annual quota, while the price is shown as a monthly one. Those are different units in one line, and bringing them together is left to you.
What is free
A free plan is announced and named Basic — "$0/mo", and a card is not required: "No credit card required".
It includes "1,200 credits/mo" with the conversion "Usable for up to 10 minutes of video/month" and "9 AI avatars" — nine ready presenters against "125+ Synthesia AI Avatars" on Starter.
The unit here is monthly, unlike the paid plans, where the credit quota is annual. Ten minutes of video a month is a size worth measuring against your own task in advance.
The free plan is counted in the same credits as the paid ones; the pricing page gives for them only the conversion of credits into minutes of video.
Restrictions
The bounds at Synthesia are expressed in two values at once — credits and minutes — and their period differs (pricing).
The free Basic — 1,200 credits a month, "up to 10 minutes of video/month".
Starter — "up to 120 minutes of video or AI Dubbing/year".
Creator — "up to 360 minutes of video or AI Dubbing/year".
Enterprise — "Unlimited video minutes".
The difference of periods is worth holding in mind when planning: on the free plan the quota is monthly, on Starter and Creator it is annual. A hundred and twenty minutes a year is on average ten minutes a month, but once they are spent the wait is until the next year of the subscription, not until the next month.
Minutes of video and minutes of dubbing are taken from one and the same quota: the wording "video or AI Dubbing" draws no division between them.
The number of presenters available is set by the plan as well: 9 on the free one, "125+" on Starter, "180+" on Creator, "240+ stock AI Avatars" and "Unlimited Personal Avatars" on Enterprise.
Rights to the output
Ownership is confirmed. The terms say: "Customer will own all Customer Data, but excluding the components of the Services and Synthesia Content", and the result of the work — video, images, sound — is assigned to Customer Data.
The document speaks of ownership and stops there: commercial use it touches neither with a permission nor with a ban. Ownership and the right to put what is made into circulation are different things.
Separately there stands the ban from the acceptable use policy: it is not allowed to be "Removing, deactivating or disabling any “watermarks” or other mechanisms of the Services that are designed to help validate provenance or differentiate between human-generated and AI-generated content".
Do they train on your data
An uncommon case: training is not forbidden altogether, but it is bounded by the frame of the tool itself.
The terms allow the tool to be improved on usage data and immediately stipulate what such improvements must not lead to: "(d) the improvement or fine tuning of any artificial intelligence components unless integrated with the Services being used by Customer; or (e) the creation or development of any artificial intelligence models that may be provisioned independent of the Services".
It reads like this: components of AI may be fine-tuned only in so far as they are built into the service the customer is using, and creating on that data models that would work independently of the service is not allowed. Separately the non-disclosure of the personal avatars created by the customer is stipulated.
The terms provide no opt-out mechanism: in place of an opt-out there are restrictions on the training itself.
How you earn with it
There are two directions, and they are arranged differently (partnership page). The addresses /affiliates and /affiliate-program redirect here.
Affiliate Partnerships — a programme with public terms, the accounting going through the Rewardful platform. The commission: "25% commission on all Starter and Creator plan payments", and a ceiling on earnings is not announced; in the terms of the programme the wording is more exact — "25% of the net amount of the payments made by a Qualified Customer", that is, the percentage is counted from the net sum of the payment. Bonuses are declared too: a free Starter plan after ten sales and an avatar of one's own after fifteen.
The accrual is recurring, and the term is named in the terms: "A Customer remains a Qualified Customer for a duration of 12 months starting from the moment of first purchase". On the landing page this term is not there — it is only in the document of terms, and that is worth keeping in mind while reading the advertising page.
The lifetime of the click tag is 60 days: the customer must register within that time after the click on the affiliate link. If the visitor has cookies switched off, the click is not tracked at all.
The payout threshold: "Commission is paid if the due commission amount is greater than $30 USD", the payment being in the first five working days of the month. The list of available methods of receiving the money is visible in the settings of the partner's dashboard in Rewardful.
Admission is by application with approval. The commission is accrued only for customers who have never registered before; self-referral is forbidden. For authors on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn a separate Creator Program is declared — with no requirement as to the number of subscribers. The tool takes questions at the address affiliates@synthesia.io.
Referral Partnerships — the second direction, and about money on it one thing is said: "Earn commission by referring your clients to Synthesia". There is no rate, and admission goes through a Google Forms form. Comparing the two directions by the size of the commission is impossible.
What it will not do
Pay for a customer who has already registered in Synthesia at some point the programme will not: the commission is due only for those who have never registered. Self-referral is forbidden outright.
Pay indefinitely it will not either: the status of Qualified Customer holds for twelve months from the first purchase, and beyond that accruals are not announced. And the percentage is counted not on any plan whatsoever but on payments under the Starter and Creator plans — the higher plans are not named in the wording of the commission.
Catch up with a visitor who has not registered within 60 days after the click the tag will not be able to. And if he has cookies switched off, the click will not be counted at all — that is stipulated by the tool.
Saying how much is paid under the Referral Partnerships direction the tool does not undertake: there is no rate on the page, only a form.
Placing a finished video on Instagram, TikTok or Facebook the tool will not help with — there are no such connections in its list of integrations.

Sources diverge: A DISCREPANCY WITHIN ONE PAGE: «With over 160+ languages and accents we already cater for a diverse range of cultures» in the heading and «140+ languages» lower down the same page. There is no list by name; of the six languages of the catalogue only English and Spanish are confirmed by the source
We did not choose between 160+ and 140+ on the source's behalf. A round number without a list is not a list.

Restrictions
WHOSE FACE AND VOICE MAY BE USED: the customer must ensure that when a Custom Avatar is created «using the voice or likeness of an individual, such individual is over the applicable statutory legal age and has provided free and informed consent» (verbatim). The document does not describe how consent is verified; there is no separate ban on public figures in what was read

Legal
improvement using usage data does happen, but with explicit caveats: improvements «will not result in… (d) the improvement or fine tuning of any artificial intelligence components unless integrated with the Services being used by Customer; or (e) the creation or development of any artificial intelligence models that may be provisioned independent of the Services» (verbatim). Non-disclosure of Custom Avatars is stipulated separately
A rare case: training is confined to the service itself rather than forbidden outright.

ownership is confirmed: «Customer will own all Customer Data, but excluding the components of the Services and Synthesia Content», and Output (video, images, audio) is classed as Customer Data. About commercial use the terms say nothing at all
Ownership and permission for commercial use are not the same thing; the second is not in the document.
source, checked 2026-08-07
the acceptable use policy forbids removing marks: it is forbidden to be «Removing, deactivating or disabling any «watermarks» or other mechanisms of the Services that are designed to help validate provenance or differentiate between human-generated and AI-generated content» (verbatim). What exactly the service applies by default the document does not say
There is a ban on removing the mark but no description of the mark itself.
