Rooter

Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Rooter is an Indian game-streaming platform and at the same time a shop for in-game currencies. The operator is Rooter Sports Technologies Private Limited, a company registered under India's Companies Act 2013 with CIN U74999DL2016PTC300035 and an office in New Delhi.

The platform describes itself as "India's largest game streaming and commerce platform" and explains its model with the formula "from content to commerce": a viewer watches a stream and then buys game currency and gift cards in Rooter's own shop, Rooter Shop. This sets Rooter apart from platforms whose earnings rest on advertising and subscriptions alone.

The second difference is its mobile nature. Rooter is built around an app and mobile games: on our check date the iOS app had last been updated on 26 June 2026, version 6.19.9, age rating 4+. We checked that it works: the live page was showing streams in progress for Garena Free Fire and in the IRL section.

Who's here

The platform describes its audience with its own numbers, and they contradict each other. The corporate page reports "85 million+ registered users", while the app's App Store description names, within a single text, both "10 million active users" and "a family of more than 25 million users". These are three different statements by the company itself; none of them comes with a methodology or a measurement date. They cannot be compared with the MAU or DAU of other platforms.

The platform sizes up the market like this: "more than 600 million Indian gamers" and an in-game purchases market worth $1 billion, expected to grow to $4 billion by 2028. That is an estimate of the market, not of Rooter's audience. On the same page the company reports $40 million of investment raised, a team of 60+ people and 100+ brand partners.

Geography and language are Indian. The home page interface is served in English, and the catalogue's content is Indian mobile games (Free Fire, BGMI, Call of Duty Mobile). The platform publishes no separate breakdown by language.

Getting started

Registration is tied to a phone number. The terms frame this as an obligation on the user: using your real name is not required, but you must give a correct phone number and gender; lying about your details, including your age, is prohibited. A parody account is allowed provided that this is stated in the profile description.

A strict restriction is one number, one account: you may not let others use your number, and you may not link several accounts to one number; the owner of the number is responsible for the content of all linked accounts.

The terms describe no separate selection process for starting to stream. Streaming is done from the mobile app; the platform publishes app store links on the home page.

What you can publish

The main format is a live game stream from a phone; alongside it there are short vertical clips (Reels) and an IRL section (the site's sections). Material is labelled with tags: the terms require you to correctly identify the nature of what you publish and assign it a suitable tag.

The prohibitions are worded strictly and under Indian law: any adult content, including anything violent, is prohibited on Rooter; you may not publish obscene, pornographic material, material harmful to minors, discriminatory content, hate speech, calls to violence, inflammatory material or anything that breaks the laws of the Republic of India. Respect for other people's intellectual property rights is stipulated separately.

Rights to the material stay with the author, but the licence granted to the platform is broad: a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable, worldwide licence to host, use, modify, distribute, copy, publicly display, translate and create derivative works. Deleted material may continue to be shown if others have already shared it.

How to grow

Rooter does not describe its recommendation mechanics. The open growth tools are categorisation by game and category, short clips and follows (the catalogue). There is no separate advertising panel for external advertisers on the pages we checked.

What the platform does say about advertising is about its own: to show sponsored content it may pass your username, gender and data about your habits and usage patterns to third parties; the platform pays no share of the advertising revenue from your purchases. Passing on sensitive data (race, caste, health, biometrics) requires separate consent.

Among its achievements the company lists first place in the "Sports" category since October 2020, the Game Changer of the Year award at the SPOTT Awards 2022 and Best Streaming Platform at the GEM Awards 2025 — this is its own list.

Path to monetization

A streamer's earnings are built on the internal currency, diamonds (Rooter Diamonds). The terms split them into two kinds: purchased ones, bought in Rooter Shop and usable only for gifting to other users; and earned ones, which come to a streamer as a donation from viewers or as cashback on shop purchases. Gifting diamonds to yourself is prohibited, and purchased diamonds have no monetary value, are neither currency nor property, and cannot be sold, transferred or exchanged for "real" money, either with the company or with anyone else.

The redemption rate is named outright and is the platform's key number: for every 100 earned diamonds a user receives 7 Indian rupees, unless otherwise agreed in writing. The rounding is described too: the threshold is 50 diamonds; more than 50 is rounded up to the next hundred, and 50 or fewer is rounded down, and the terms give a table of examples: 99 diamonds yield 0 rupees, 101 and 149 yield 7 each, and 151 and 220 yield 14 each.

The payout procedure: withdrawal happens at the end of a calendar month, the company asks once for confirmation of a bank account, after which earned diamonds are redeemed monthly. If fewer than 100 diamonds accumulate in a month, the balance carries over to the next month. All applicable taxes are withheld from the payout, and the company's own calculation of the number of diamonds is declared final and binding.

The company's rights here are broader than usual: it reserves the ability to revise the redemption procedure unilaterally, including the amounts and the rounding rules, and also to void diamonds in the event of a breach of the terms, suspicious transactions or deletion of the account.

The second revenue line is a paid subscription to the app's features: plans renew automatically (monthly or annually), cancellation must happen no later than 24 hours before renewal, payment is charged to the Apple ID within 24 hours before the end of the period, and no refunds are given for the unused part of a period. This is a viewer's subscription to the app's capabilities, not a subscription to an author's channel.

Tools and automation

Rooter has no official public API: there is no developer portal and no documentation on the open pages. More than that, the terms close off the path for external tools outright: it is prohibited to interfere with the platform's operation, to access its non-public areas, to deploy any bots and to collect user data by scraping, and also to probe, scan and test the resilience of its systems and protective measures. A breach may lead to deletion of the profile and referral to law enforcement.

In other words, the terms make no provision for automating work with Rooter from third-party services.

Limits and rules

Who it's for

It suits you if your audience is in India and plays mobile games: the sections, the shop front and the app are assembled specifically for that market, and payouts go in rupees to an Indian bank account. The entry threshold for income is low — accumulating 100 diamonds is enough, the equivalent of 7 rupees, and the balance carries over if you fall short.

It suits those who want direct donations without intermediate statuses and partner applications: the diamond system works for everyone.

It does not suit projects with adult or harsh content — that is banned entirely. It does not suit service developers: there is no official API, and automation is prohibited outright by the terms. And it does not suit anyone who needs predictable economics: the redemption rate, the rounding rules and the payout procedure itself can all be changed by the company unilaterally.
