Google Ads
Tool · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.
Overview
Google Ads describes itself like this: "Sehen Sie sich an, wie Sie mit Google Ads für Ihr Unternehmen werben können. Nutzen Sie unsere digitale Werbeplattform für die Kundenakquisition und den Verkauf" (the page about Google Ads). That is the tool's self-description, not an independent assessment.
Here a caveat about the check itself is needed. The self-description and the interface language were taken from a page whose address contains /de/ — that is, from the German version. That is why the record "interface language of the homepage: de" describes the specific page checked, not the language of the tool in general. To conclude from it that Google Ads is available only in German is not permissible: that is a feature of our own request to the site, not a statement of the source.
By purpose this is an advertising platform: buying impressions and clicks, not running accounts on social networks. Neither scheduling of posts, nor work with comments, nor statistics of other people's profiles does the source ascribe to Google Ads.
Which platforms it works with
The list of channels is taken from the help centre article about Performance Max campaigns and is given there verbatim: the advertising looks for customers "across Google's channels such as YouTube, Display, Search, Discover, Gmail, and Maps" (Google Ads help centre).
Let us take that list honestly. Of what is listed there is exactly one social platform — YouTube. Search, Display, Discover, Gmail and Maps are not social networks: they are a search engine, an advertising network on third-party sites, a recommendations feed, email and maps. So in the terms of our catalogue, support for platforms at Google Ads comes down to YouTube, and the rest are neighbouring advertising surfaces of the same company.
Where the list is taken from matters too: it is the description of one type of campaign (Performance Max), not a general list of where Google Ads is able to show advertising. This description does not give a full list of channels.
How you earn with it
Google Ads does have an affiliate programme, but it is arranged in an unusual way and it does not pay in money.
The programme has no separate landing page: on ads.google.com there is none, and the terms are set out in the Google Ads help centre. The programme is called the Google Ads referral program, and the commission in it is an advertising credit to your own account in Google Ads.
The size of the commission is not named as a figure in the help centre. It is said that the credit is accrued for every new advertiser who has begun to spend, while the specific sum depends on the offer of your country. There is a hard upper boundary: no more than ten referral credits a year across all accounts.
The accrual is one-off for each referral, and it has a calendar of its own: the credit arrives 30 days after the referral has begun to spend funds, and it burns out after 60 days. That is, an unused commission simply disappears.
The lifetime of the click tag is not named in the help centre. What exactly links you to the referral technically does not follow from the document.
The threshold is described incompletely too: on individual markets there exists a minimum threshold of spending giving the right to the credit, but the sum depends on the market and is not given.
There is one method of payment and there is no alternative to it: only an advertising credit to the Google Ads account, and there are no money payouts. The credit cannot be transferred to another account.
Who is admitted: an active Google Ads advertiser with standard or administrative access and an account in good standing. The country of payment must coincide with the country of the referral. The referral itself must be a new customer and must launch a first campaign. An account linked only to a manager account is not suitable for the programme.
There is no single link to the terms of the programme — the help centre refers to the terms of the specific offer, which you will see on joining.
What it will not do
Google Ads will not run social networks for you: it is a platform for buying advertising, and scheduling of posts, work with comments or statistics of accounts are not ascribed to it by the source.
Reaching platforms beyond the Google ecosystem is not possible according to our source: in the list of channels from the help centre all the surfaces belong to the company itself, and there is one social platform among them — YouTube.
You will not receive money for the advertisers you bring: the commission is given out only as an advertising credit, it cannot be withdrawn or transferred to another account, and after 60 days it burns out. Earning more than ten such credits a year will not work — that is the announced ceiling.
Taking part in the programme without being a Google Ads advertiser will not work either, nor will bringing referrals from a country other than the country of your payment.
The sum of the credit is not named; the threshold of spending by market is not disclosed; the term over which a click is counted is not announced; there are no single programme terms on the site.
