BOTIM
Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.
Overview
BOTIM is a messenger from the UAE that has belonged to the Emirati group Astra Tech since 2023 and has grown from a calling app into a "communication plus finance" bundle. Today a single app holds chats and video calls, a wallet, cards, international transfers, bill payments, microloans and UAE government services.
BOTIM occupies a special place in international SMM. In the UAE, voice and video calls over the internet are a regulated activity, and the regulator TDRA publishes a list of permitted apps; BOTIM is on it. So in the UAE, BOTIM is not "one more messenger" but one of the few legal voice channels, and it is installed very widely.
One expectation is worth setting aside immediately, though: BOTIM has no public creator tools and no channels — no public subscriptions and no creator dashboard either. For a marketer, BOTIM is an advertising surface and payment infrastructure, not a publishing platform.
Who's here
The parent company reports on its site more than 150 million users across more than 155 countries — that is Astra Tech's claim about its whole ecosystem, with no breakdown by product and no counting methodology. The same figure is repeated in corporate material about the Botim Ultra platform, which adds that the financial side runs on PayBy — Astra Tech's financial arm licensed by the UAE Central Bank.
One figure independent of the platform is the Google Play listing: the app page shows more than 100 million downloads, the publisher is ALGENTO DMCC, and the app is flagged as containing ads and in-app purchases. In the App Store the seller is listed as Algento Cloud Computing Limited, and the listing enumerates 32 interface languages, among them Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Indonesian, Malay, Thai, Vietnamese, Russian and Ukrainian. That set points to Gulf migrant workers as a substantial part of the audience.
The geographic centre is the UAE. The App Store description states outright that the financial features are available only in the UAE, while the money services page promises transfers to 150-plus countries — meaning money flows out of the UAE rather than in.
Getting started
An ordinary account is created with a phone number, as in any messenger, and that is enough for calls and messaging.
The financial side requires full verification. Astra Tech's platform terms establish that the wallet, cards and loans require you to be at least 18 (21 for certain services), to be a UAE resident, to supply an Emirates ID and to pass a live video identity check through the device camera — all of it listed in clause 4.3 of the terms.
There is no business account here in the sense SMM usually means. Instead there are two separate doors. The first: connecting botim money acquiring, where onboarding requires a trade licence, Emirates IDs for all partners, incorporation documents and a merchant questionnaire; under simplified checks the daily turnover is capped at 6,000 dirhams, while extended checks require a lease agreement, three months of statements and a VAT certificate, with the limit set by risk profile. The second: buying advertising under an insertion agreement, covered below.
What you can publish
The platform has no publishing formats — there is nothing to publish and nowhere to publish it. The official connectivity page lists only personal formats: messages, voice notes and encrypted media, HD calls, an AI-based chat assistant and desktop versions for macOS, Windows and Linux — that is the entire set.
The only "content" you as a company will place inside the app is advertising material. Requirements for it are set by the standard insertion terms: materials are delivered in line with the specifications and, unless the order states another deadline, no later than five business days before the campaign starts. The same document states that the publisher may reject or demand rework of materials it considers to be in breach of the law and advertising standards, defamatory, obscene, misleading, infringing third-party rights, damaging to its reputation or technically incompatible with its platforms.
Format specifications (dimensions, file weight, duration) are, under the terms, provided by the publisher on its site or on request.
How to grow
Organic growth is not part of BOTIM: there are no subscriptions, no feed, no account directory. Growth here is bought.
Advertising is arranged through an Insertion Order between the advertiser or agency and the publisher. The standard insertion terms have been in force since 20 July 2026 and describe the ad inventory as slots, placements, impressions and other advertising opportunities on the publisher's digital platforms and apps.
Practical details worth knowing before negotiations, from the same terms:
- payment is due within 14 days of the invoice date, unless the order says otherwise; amounts are stated excluding VAT; the default currency is the UAE dirham;
- late payment accrues interest above the UAE Central Bank base rate, and the campaign may be suspended;
- cancellation more than 30 days before the start carries no penalty, 15–30 days before costs a quarter of the value, 7–14 days half, and less than 7 days before or already during the campaign — the full amount;
- any change to an accepted order requires the publisher's written consent and may cost extra.
Reporting for the advertiser, it appears, is agreed in the order itself.
Path to monetization
The platform does not pay creators: BOTIM has no content reward programs, because there is no content in public form to begin with.
There are two ways to earn here. The first is accepting payments. The botim money service offers merchants a payment gateway, payment links, invoices, QR codes, recurring payments and POS terminals. Separately there is JSAPI payment — a purchase on your own site without leaving the BOTIM app, if the user arrived through it. Rates are partly published: for international cards it is 1,5% plus 1 dirham per transaction, while for domestic cards and wallet payments no price is given on the page, and large volumes are offered individual pricing.
The second is selling financial products to the audience through partnership. The money services page lists gold investments with a stated return of about 3% a year and a minimum entry of 40 dirhams, transfer instalments of up to 5,000 dirhams over up to six months, and a microloan of up to 300 dirhams — all these figures come from the botim money page and are platform claims. A separate section of the app is given over to UAE government services: Emirates ID renewal, guest visas, unemployment insurance, national bonds and the lottery — the list is on the "more" page.
For the platform itself, monetizing a user means a subscription. The App Store description names auto-renewing monthly and yearly Botim VIP subscriptions that remove ads; the price depends on the region and is shown in the app before purchase.
Tools and automation
BOTIM has no public messenger API, no developer portal, no bot documentation and no broadcast channels.
What does exist are integrations on the payments side. botim money offers merchants API and CMS integration, unified real-time reporting, multi-user access with roles and permissions, fraud monitoring, 3-D Secure and next-day settlement — the set is listed on the pricing page.
Astra Tech's corporate material describes Botim Ultra as a platform where third-party apps and services are deployed inside the ecosystem, and promises merchants customer management tools and storefront creation — all of it at the level of description, with no public technical documentation.
Limits and rules
The main limit is regulatory and geographic. Voice and video calls over the internet in the UAE are permitted only through licensed operators or in cooperation with them; operators are obliged to block traffic from apps that do not meet the requirements, and TDRA grants exemptions at its discretion and publishes the list of permitted apps. BOTIM is on that list. The flip side: which features are available, and whether the app is available at all, depends on the regulator's decision and not on the company alone.
The second limit is financial. Money features work only in the UAE, as the App Store description says outright. Verification requires UAE residency and an Emirates ID under clause 4.3 of the platform terms.
The legal framework sits in ADGM, the Abu Dhabi financial free zone. The terms name the platform operator as Astra Digital Holding Ltd, registered in Abu Dhabi Global Market, whose group includes Algento DMCC and other companies. The advertising terms are expressly governed by ADGM law: disputes are first discussed for at least twenty business days, then go to the ADGM courts.
Who it's for
BOTIM suits you if your target audience lives in the UAE, and especially if it is migrant workers sending money home. That is a rare combination: an app a person has open every day both to talk to family and to transfer wages and renew documents.
It suits companies that need acquiring in the UAE with payment acceptance inside someone else's app, and advertisers with a budget for contracted display placement.
It does not suit anyone looking for an organic channel: you cannot run an account here, build up followers or publish content — the platform has no such features. Nor does it suit anyone who wants to launch independently and fast: both advertising and acquiring are arranged by contract with company documents.
